FAQs

Welcome to our Frequently Asked Questions page. Here you should be able to find answers to most of the questions you may have about us and our training courses.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for, please don't hesitate to call or email us with your query.

How do I find you?

DV Talent is based in Shoreditch, east London - the heart of the UK's digital community.

Most of our training takes place at our training rooms here.

What public transport is nearby?

We are less than 2 minutes walk from Hoxton overground station, and 7 minutes from Old Street station, which is on the Northern Line as well as the Thames Link between Luton and Brighton..

If I drive, can I park?

At weekends only you can park on the surrounding roads. During the week, however, residents parking restrictions are in force.

What if I’m on a bike?

If you’re cycling you can bring your bike into our courtyard and lock it to one of the steel bike racks.

Is there wheelchair access at DV Talent’s offices?

Yes, but please notify us in advance of any particular requirements.

Do you run courses outside London?

Yes, we run courses throughout the UK – including Cardiff, Bristol, Belfast, Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds and Brighton. However their frequency depends on demand and having enough people to make them viable. So if it’s easier for you for the course to be nearer your home, please spread the word among your friends and colleagues as there’s a better chance we can make it happen. We can also run private, bespoke courses at your offices, wherever you are.

What sort of people come on your courses?

Most of our clients are established professionals working in the film and television industry. They include people from the main terrestrial broadcasters such as the BBC, ITV and Channel 4, independent production companies – large and small – as well as scores of freelancers. We also do lots of work with corporate communications and video teams within large companies and government departments, as well as digital agencies and NGOs. If you’re in any doubt about whether the course will be suitable for you, please call or drop us an email and we’d be happy to advise

Does DV Talent supply all the equipment?

Yes, for courses held at our training rooms we supply everything – including cameras, sound equipment, software, computers and manuals. Plus plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits.

Is there wifi access in your teaching rooms?

Yes, we have wifi throughout the building.

Can I bring my own equipment?

On some courses yes, but please check with us first. We need to make sure what you’re bringing is suitable for the class, but also, that it is clearly labelled so there’s no danger of it getting mixed up with our gear. (This is particularly true of camera courses where there are lots of peripheral bits of kit flying around.)

Do you provide refreshments?

We do indeed. We’ll keep you replenished with teas (including herbal ones), fresh coffee and other refreshments, as well as biscuits and fruit. Lunch is not included, but there are a number of cafes, gastro pubs and restaurants on our doorstep, as well as local supermarkets.

What happens if I need to cancel or postpone a course?

As long as you give us more than 10 working days’ notice, you can cancel or postpone your course as often as you like at no cost. Once the course has been confirmed, our cancellation policy kicks in and the full course fees will be due unless we can find someone to replace you. However, even if you do miss the course, don’t despair: we’ll do our best to get you onto a future one as and when we have a spare place.

Who are the tutors?

Our tutors are all hugely experienced specialists in their field – top industry professionals teaching current industry practice. For more information about them, take a look at our course pages.

How can I pay for my course?

You can pay through the website using either a personal or company debit or credit card. (We accept most forms of credit card but not Amex or Diners Club.) If you do pay using a company credit card there is a small charge added to the course fee to cover what we are charged by the online payment gateway for handling the secure booking.

If you work for a company you can also pay by invoice. Please let us know and we can arrange this.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations must be in writing and must be received at least 10 working days prior to the course date or the full fee will be charged. DV Talent reserves the right to cancel courses at any time (e.g. if there are insufficient enrolments) without liability, and delegates will be offered an alternative date or full refund. In booking a course, you are acknowledging you have read and accepted our Terms and Conditions.

I don’t want to pay online. Do you accept other methods of payment?

Yes, you can pay by BACS transfer. Please contact us for our bank details. If you do pay by BACS, it’s vital you put your name as a reference.

Alternatively, if you want to be really old school, you can also pay by cheque. Please make it payable to ‘DV Talent Ltd’ – and write your name and the course you are booking, on the back.

Why do I have to pay VAT on my booking?

DV Talent is VAT registered so we have to charge VAT on all our bookings. If you’re VAT registered you can obviously claim this back. If you’re a freelancer and not VAT registered, it might be worth talking to your accountant about registering yourself as the VAT rules for freelancers can be advantageous.

Can I get funding or bursaries to help pay for the course?

Yes, there are various organisations that help fund training both for freelancers and companies. The main one is ScreenSkills (formerly Creative Skillset) who offer Bursaries of up to £800, however these funds – not surprisingly – are very popular and tend to run out quickly. We’re usually pretty up to speed on what financial assistance is available when and from whom, so it’s best to email us and we’ll do our best to help.

I’m a Talent Manager Pro Premium member, does that help?

Yes, if you’ve got a Pro Premium Annual account on The Talent Manager you get money off training. Talent Manager Partner companies also get money off, so please contact us to take advantage of our discounts.
