The Series Producer Fast Track Scheme - £1200.00

Our pioneering Series Producer training scheme is back!

This 13-day course is for experienced programme-makers taking their first step into a senior programme management role.

The course, which runs part-time over 6-months, is taught by some of the most influential programme-makers of recent years, will provide experienced producers with the key managerial, editorial and creative skills needed to be a successful network Series Producer.

Delegates will also have the chance to attend one of the main broadcast-industry festivals.

This scheme is heavily funded by Creative Skillset's TV Skills Fund - so participant fees are a fraction of the real cost.

Who it's for?

The scheme is open to producers, directors - or similar - junior SPs seeking to hone their network series producing skills.

Pre-requisites

You will need to have a proven track-record at producer level or the equivalent. 

Outcomes

By the end of the course, delegates will have a set of tools to help them put together and manage large production teams more effectively; run edits and build a narrative arc across a series; understand - and therefore be better able to manage - the logistics involved in a series, including budgets and schedules; have a better appreciation of the relationship between a Series Producer, Commissioner and Exec Producer/ MD; troubleshoot common problems Series Producers face on productions, and be more confident in handling key talent.

  • Making the transition from programme-maker to manager
  • Legal responsibilities and compliance
  • Negotiating and handling talent
  • Money matters – understanding budgets and schedules
  • Audiences and schedules
  • Storytelling and shaping a format
  • Generating ideas and successful development for network and international markets
  • Rescuing material in the edit
  • Inheriting and refreshing a series
  • Writing and overseeing commentary
  • Managing up: dealing with execs and commissioners
  • Commissioner sessions
  • Plus, the chance to attend one of the following festivals - GEITF/Televisual Factual Festival/ Sheffield Doc Festival

 

Venue & Times

Location:            TBC 

                            Although the majority of the training will be held in London, there will be some                                               regionally based sessions.

                            Successful candidates will get a contribution towards their travel and                                                            accommodation costs for attending the training workshops

FAQs

Do I need to bring anything to the course?
It’s advisable to bring a pen and some notepaper. Otherwise, all you need is a receptive mind and your energy and enthusiasm.

Is lunch provided?
We keep you replenished with teas, coffee, biscuits and fruit. We don’t provide lunch.

What if I have to cancel?
Successful applicants will have to confirm their acceptance of an offered place by Friday 4th April. They will do this either by ensuring payment or a PO reaches us by that time. After that date, any unconfirmed places will be offered to applicants on the waiting list. If you do have to cancel after the 4th April, having confirmed your acceptance of the place, the full course fees will still be payable unless we can get someone else to take your place.
